Gait and balance disorders are common complications of stroke, affecting about 2/3 of patients and increasing the risk of falls. Improving walking and balance ability is a major goal of rehabilitation. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) as a non-invasive technology has been used to improve neural function in recent years. Studies have shown that stimulating the cerebellum not only regulates movement but also affects brain regions related to walking and balance, making the cerebellum a potential therapeutic target for rehabilitation. This article summarizes the role of the cerebellum in motor regulation and the progress of cerebellar TMS in improving gait and balance disorders after stroke.
