Objective: To assess the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating anxiety and depression in functional dyspepsia (FD) using Meta-analysis. Methods: We searched China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Database (Wanfang), VIP Database (VIP), Chinese Biomedical Literature Service System (SinoMed), PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase, from the establishment of the database to January, 2024, to identify randomized controlled studies of acupuncture treatment for functional dyspepsia, anxiety and depression. Literature of randomized controlled studies related to acupuncture for functional dyspepsia anxiety and depressed mood. Meta-analysis of relevant outcome indicators was performed using Revman 5.3 and Stata 17.0. Results: In the included randomized controlled trials, 832 patients with functional dyspepsia were included (416 patients in the treatment group and 416 patients in the control group). Meta-analysis results concluded that compared to control group, acupuncture improved patients' SAS [MD=-0.55,95%CI(-1.01,-0.10)], SDS [MD=-1.18,95%CI(-1.84,-0.52)], HAMA [MD=-4.73,95%CI(-11.59,2.12)], HAMD [MD=-4.35,95%CI(-9.15,0.44)], HADS [MD=-3.01,95%CI(-4.73,-1.29)], dyspepsia symptom score [MD=-1.55,95%CI(-2.04,-1.07)], and total effective rate [MD=2.62,95%CI(1.70,4.01)]. Conclusion: Acupuncture has an ameliorative effect on both symptoms and anxiety and depression in patients with functional dyspepsia, but the level of evidence is low, and higher-quality randomized controlled trials need to be included to further validate the results.
